SmartShape Nutrition is a package which is designed to be ran in conjunction with our personal training sessions. In order to get the most of personal training your body must fully recover and adapt to the increased physiological stress you will impose on it during the training sessions. At SmartShape we recognise that optimal adaptation to the stresses of training, and thus progression, can only be achieved through sound nutritional policy. This is why we will help you every step of the way with your eating habits and supplementation regime. The process of nutritional feed back is a continual one, and will occur during each personal training session, or as a separate dietary consultation.
The fee you pay for this package therefore covers the following:
Analysis of the information we receive from you (such as food logs)
Performing a literature search for information specific to your health and fitness goals
Developing written reports
Preparation for the verbal feed back you receive during personal training sessions
To guide you along the consultation process and to help you understand the package design we have broken it down into three easy steps.
Decide which of the following subject areas you most want help with;
PHASE ONE - Diet and lifestyle consultation
An information gathering session designed to give the nutritionist an in depth insight into your current diet and eating habits, your activity levels, and other lifestyle factors. This is usually a once off at the start of your training programme.
Obtaining objective measurements of your health is an important part of the consultation process. In the first instance they can help to decide whether nutritional change is actually necessitated. Should any values fall outside a standardised reference range then they can help guide the treatment process by highlighting priority areas. By comparing values before, during and after treatment it can show whether nutritional and dietary therapy is taking effect, and whether a greater nutritional change is required.
A 7 day food log helps give the nutritionist a detailed insight into your daily diet. No weighing of food is required, just simple household units. The food log doesn’t just ask details about food, but also your thoughts and moods before you eat, and also your activity/exercise habits so we can see the interaction between your training and your food choices.
By completing our in depth health questionnaire you can help guide us on the way to making nutritional recommendations that are best fit to you. Everything from eye colour to the colour of your skin is taken into account when analysing a diet.
At SmartShape we try to veer away from the traditional ‘dietary analysis’. Often such analyses focus heavily on what’s wrong, and what’s good about a diet, but are low on practical advice on how to improve, which is often the underlying motive for having a dietary analysis done! Many of our clients come to us asking for help with changing their eating habits, and so when we give feed back about diets, we focus heavily on the behaviour changes required to put into place some of our suggestions. The process of dietary feedback occurs over three stages:
STAGE ONE
We compose a brief written summary of the areas in your diet and lifestyle you need to address first, and the reasons why. We discuss with you the timetable for action, and the specific goals to be reached for each time period.
STAGE TWO
We discuss with you the strategies available for making dietary and lifestyle changes. There is never one solution for everyone, and thus we offer a ‘selection pack’ of strategies. Some of these include:
Move over a Circle to learn more.
STAGE THREE
Once the strategy for change is agreed on, we will work along side you on a week by week basis, and so continually offer a supportive environment for change.
